How to change your display name on Gmail is one of the many questions that Gmail users get. It’s a good question and I have some answers for it too! The display name you associate with your account is completely dependent on your Gmail account settings. Regardless of what you do, you cannot alter the display name you have set when you sign up for the free Gmail account.

There are a few easy ways around this. You can change your display name by going to your account settings and selecting “Change Account Names.” If you don’t see an option there, select “No.” This will prevent you from being able to change your display name. However, if you want to change it anyway, there are other ways to do it.

First, there is the official Gmail website. The “Change your display name” link at the bottom of the Gmail home page has the ability to toggle whether you should display your full name or just your nickname.

If you’re planning on using your real name, this method will likely be your best bet. Otherwise, you might want to check out this alternate method. This one has a couple of big advantages:

If you already know your display name (and it’s valid), this method allows you to simply input that into the address bar of your email program.

This eliminates the need to type it in by hand! Furthermore, once you get your account set up, you can always change your display name by going to your account settings. This eliminates any chances of getting an email in the spam folder or ending up with a similar email to someone else’s account.

Also, if you’re using Gmail for business reasons and you get an email from someone you don’t know, your display name is exposed. This means you’ll have two different names that you have to remember. If the person’s address is not listed, you could end up with 2 email addresses. Not cool.

How to change your display name when you’re not signed in to your account is pretty easy. All you have to do is go to the section where you manage your passwords and click on “Change.” It will take you to a new page where you can select a new password and display name.

If you would prefer to use a different email address for business and personal use, you can do this as well. Simply go to your account settings and select “Change Email Address,” or “Change Your Account Name.” When you’re done, your display name will automatically change to your new one. You can always change your display name back to your original one if you ever change your email address.
